This interconnected linkage of circles is a new direction for my work. A dynamic system contained in a compact space.
When I thought up this piece, I wanted to be surprised by its motion. The vibrant Rosa Mexicana contrasting the dark gray anodize did this very well
In the same vein as the work TRANSIT, this piece, HALCYON, works with an included air movement system. In this particular piece one experiences visual tricks as the yellow geometric forms move past each other. Having imagined the motion and sketching it very roughly, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was very happy with the result.
This large hanging indoor work was an experimental project using LED light strips, an Arduino microprocessor and some sophisticated bearing systems that allowed electric connections through them. The sculpture itself was hanging and moved independently using fans on relays to achieve the proper dynamism. It was a lot of fun to work with a friend to learn basic coding and see if this may have a future in my work.
TRANSIT - 2018 This sculpture was the first of four framed wall sculptures that had a self contained air movement system. Complete with relay timers and silent fans to actuate the work and achieve the desired motion
One of the later escapement pieces, BOW, is a small table top work that operates with the aim of having the central disk appear to just be barely moving. In fact, the center of the disk is the center point around which the whole sculpture is built.

The PARABOLIC series of pieces was a group of 8 variations of the same piece. I used brushed aluminum, anodized aluminum, gold leafed aluminum and painted as well. This informal video gives a feel for its size.
One of my favorites. The surprise of the mirrored finish flashing as the piece spins around is wonderful
This piece was part of a series where I used carbon fiber strip to create geometric forms. It lent itself well to making perfect circles. The light weight, the interesting visual texture and its strength made it a go to for several pieces. This piece hangs from the ceiling from a gimbal that allows motion in all directions.
One of my favorite leaf style pieces. The idea of 3 up and 3 down carefully sliding past each other is quite satisfying.
The Art Nouveau period has been influential in some of my work. This piece is an example
One of my early “box” construction pieces. It gives a solid, substantial feel to the work
The six oval elements pass within millimeters of each other creating a tension and release that is a part of most of my work
I interact with the sculpture in a windless environment to get a feel for scale and dynamism of the piece
My largest commissioned piece to date. I had the great privilege to be awarded the commission for the central location at the new Eaton world headquarters in 2012. It was a massive undertaking for me, and one that I will remember fondly.
In this video, I am fine tuning clearances between the moving parts of the sculpture. These will all be inset in a frame that houses virtually silent fans set on relay timers to get the desired motion.
Here one can see the internal structure of one of the semi-circular elements of the sculpture. Akin to a bridge in many ways.
The sculpture EQUINOX that was commissioned by the Eaton corporation in 2012 has been my largest commission to date. It was an exciting, nerve wracking project that bore a beautiful sculpture. Here I am in my studio doing some fine tuning of one of the semi circular elements.
